María Eugenia Castro – Cello

 

 

María Eugenia Castro, a graduate from the Juan José Castro Conservatory of Music in 1994, studied cello with Jorge Otero, Nicolás Finoli, André Mouroux and Claudio Baraviera .

 

In 1997/1998 she was pupil of Julia Urman Dyachenko at the Ferraz Conservatory of Madrid, and assisted the Master Classes by Eduardo Valenzuela, Eduardo Vasallo and Bernard Greenhouse. In 1998 she participated in the “Santander Internacional Violoncello  Course” given by Franz Helmerson at the “Reina Sofía School” in Spain.

 

She was twice conceded a grant by the Antorchas Foundation and received government  subsidy from the National Secretariat of Culture to study in Europe.

 

 

As part of the Reina Sofía Chamber Orchestra (Spain) she gave various concerts conducted by Nicolás Chumachenko.

 

As a cellist she was part  of the following argentine orchestras: Mar del Plata Municipal Symphony Orchestra, first cello in the Radio Nacional Juvenile Symphony Orchestra, Teatro Colón Stable Orchestra . She presently belongs to  the National Symphony Orchestra.

 

María Eugenia Castro concertized extensively in Argentina with some of the leading national  chamber groups,  such as the  Mar del Plata Baroque Trio, the Orpheus Quintet, Ricercare Quartet, the Mayo Chamber Orchestra, the Nacional Symphony Orchestra Sextet.

 

Since 2003 she is a  permanent member  of the San Telmo Trio, with Haydée Seibert (violin) and Barbara Civita (piano).
